FAQ

Question How long will it take for my child to learn to swim? Answer is... There is no true answer to this question. Every child is different and they learn at different rates depending on how comfortable they are within the aqua environment, e.g.: a child who is scared of water will take longer to learn than a child who loves the water and enjoys swimming. Every child is unique, they will all develop skills and progress at their own pace, however extra time in the water with parents, friends, siblings in the pool or at the beach will help to build and improve their skills. Regular attendance to swimming lessons all year round will improve your child’s ability to be water safe, retain skills and make progress.

Question Is the pool heated? Answer is... Our pool is heated to a comfortable 29-33 degrees all year round (season dependant). When learning to swim babies and children need to be in warm water, when feeling warm and comfortable they will concentrate and learn the tasks set for them.

Question What age can my child start to swim? Answer is... We encourage babies to start lessons after their first immunisation injections (2-3 months). At an early age babies are able to close down their airways and mouth instead of swallowing the water, if they start lessons whilst still having the ability to do this they will adapt to lessons quickly. The sooner a baby interacts with water the quicker they will learn to swim and have respect for it. The benefits of starting early include developing fine and gross motor skills, co-ordination, muscle development along with bonding with Mum or Dad in the water.

Question Do lessons continue through the school holidays? Answer is... Our swim school operates all year-round, however school age children don’t attend lessons during the school holidays, we are closed on all public holidays along with our annual 2-week closure in the July school holidays and 4 weeks closure over the Christmas / New Year period.

Question Why do you offer swimming lessons through winter? Answer is... Swimming is a year-round activity. In order to become a strong confident swimmer you need to consistently attend your lessons. Not swimming during the colder winter months can be detrimental to the skills we are trying to teach young children and can affect the fitness of older children. During winter the pool temperature is kept at 32-33 degrees to make it a comfortable learning environment for both our students and teachers. Children require constant practise to acquire new skills and reinforce existing ones. Aquatic education is an ongoing process of long-term skill development and muscle memory, stopping over winter may cause your child’s confidence and swimming ability to regress.

Question When should my child finish swimming lessons? Answer is... Ideally your child should be able to swim at least 100m unassisted without goggles for them to be safe in a normal still water environment. This will give your child the basic skills to be safe in a still water environment and give them to the skills to move onto a squad, swim club or surf club that will allow them to build up their endurance and learn about swimming in the ocean with waves and rips. Swimming is a lifetime skill that you will never forget once you have mastered it.

Question How can I fast track my child’s progress? Answer is... If you wish to accelerate your child’s swimming progress you can consider any or all of the following: Private Lessons 2 x lessons per week Holiday intensives Going to the local pool or swimming at home as often as possible for play.

Question What happens if I miss a lesson? Answer is... Make up lessons are provided if your child has had a broken bone, stitches or been hospitalised. Upon sighting of a doctor certificate these lessons will be organised at your earlier convenience. These lessons must be made up within the month of returning to your normal swim lesson. Lessons are not transferrable or refundable they must be made up.

Question Safety Issues Answer is... The safety of you, your child and our staff is paramount to us. We conduct regular inspections of the pool area, pool water and all learn-to-swim equipment to make sure that they are safe and functional. We ask that while your child is in their lesson, you stay within the centre.

Question How do I get my class deposit back? Answer is... When signing up for lessons you will be charges a $50.00 deposit that will hold your swim spot for as long as you wish to do lessons. When you want to stop lessons you need to give the reception desk staff 2 full week’s notice of finishing lessons in order to get your $50.00 deposit refunded. If you do not give notice you will forgo the deposit.

These lessons must be taken within the term of returning to lessons and are not transferrable or refundable.
